What is the Panel?
The MyData Community Evaluation Panel evaluates nominations for the MyData Awards and applications to recognise MyData-aligned technology products and services using the MyData Trust Mark (view event here). The panel identifies real-world contributions to the MyData mission, recognising meaningful actions that advance a human-centric approach to data.
As a panelist, you will be added to a roster of 40-75 members. When needed, three-person review teams are convened from the panel to evaluate batches of 10-15 nominees, supported by MyData staff with summarised overviews, recommendations and a simple process to facilitate efficient decision-making.
Panel review teams will also consider cases in which a MyData Award or Trust Mark might be revoked due to complaints or practices contrary to the MyData mission.
Why should I join?
Participating in the Community Review Panel makes a vital contribution to the MyData community and mission. It helps ensure that the breadth and impact of the movement is recognised, while also growing the community.
Participating in the panel also provides insights and overview of leading practice from inside and outside of the community, and panel members will have early access to analysis of the 400+ nominations we have received for the MyData Awards.
Panel members are encouraged to add participation to their online profiles (LinkedIn, etc) and will be recognised for their contributions in MyData webpages, newsletters, social media, and awards ceremonies, both individually and collectively.
What will I have to do?
The commitment is flexible, and much lighter than previous years. By joining the Panel, you commit only to:
- Receive requests to join review teams: You can accept or decline these based on your availability. Each review typically involves reviewing 10-15 nominees over a two-week period. We expect most panel members to join no more than 2 review teams over the award judging period.
Staff provide summaries and recommendations for each nominee, so panelists’ task is simply to validate these claims, typically by reviewing web links or provided evidence, complete 3-5 form questions per nominee, confirming the candidate’s alignment with MyData values. In some rare cases a review panel may wish to conduct a brief interview with a nominee to gain additional information they need to make their decision.
Time Estimate: Most review sessions require a minimal commitment, a bundle of tasks to be completed in one’s own time over 1-2 weeks in October – December 2024, with each nominee’s review taking only a few minutes. Review teams typically complete evaluations asynchronously over one week and convene once in an online meeting if needed. Each review team will co-ordinate by Slack, email, video chat or whatever works for the members of your review team.
Each Awards information packet will include summary presentations of ~20 Awards nominees (approx 500-word summaries, accompanied by external links). Short meetings will be facilitated by staff on request or if review teams do not reach consensus.
Panel members with technology expertise will also be invited to join review teams for the MyData Trust Mark. In addition to a 1-week asynchronous review period, this process for this will include an online interview with applicants.
