Stepping up ethical approaches to personal data in a regional tech hub
The Netherlands is a regional technology leader and has been fertile ground for the uptake of the MyData Declaration and principles as far back as 2005. In 2017 the MyData Netherlands hub was set up providing a forum for ethical personal data advocates to meet and troubleshoot common challenges. In November the MyData community will meet in Amsterdam for a series of community and external events culminating in the 2021 MyData Operator Awards.
MyData Global empowers individuals by improving their right to self-determination regarding their personal data. To achieve these aims, we bring together governments, companies, organisations, and individuals to find ethical solutions for personal data management
MyData events provide a space where stakeholders can meet, discuss and agree on ethical personal data approaches that will help tackle the big issues facing humanity, from artificial intelligence to climate change.
A series of workshops have been put together that develop skills and facilitate knowledge sharing. MyData events are also fertile ground for those seeking to find new business opportunities and develop projects with like-minded partners.

“I’ve had the chance to participate in several MyData community meetings – Barcelona, Edinburgh, Athens – and each time it has been a fantastic opportunity to meet people with the same concerns and will to build a human oriented data exploitation model. It has also been a great space to join efforts and move forward on important issues, both on the MyData concept/idea and the organisation itself. I can only recommend joining!”
